A more festive time eco-friendly? It’s possible!
Ah, the holiday season! The most magical time of the year! For us, the Holidays are synonymous with joy, reunions, quality time with loved ones and well-deserved rest. We find that these words resonate even more, because at the end of 2022, we can really celebrate with the people who are dear to us (finally!). ❤️✨
Apart from a white Christmas (which we would really like to have), what can make this festive period even better?
Small initiatives ecologists and playful here and there!
Because, let's be honest, the holidays are often conducive to higher consumption than usual. Who says increased consumption says more waste!
Here are some of our practical tips to reduce your footprint ecological during this period. I promise, I swear, it’s nothing complicated!
Before the celebrations
The secret to a successful Christmas celebration and more eco-responsible? Planning!
Take inventory of your table equipment
To avoid buying anything unnecessarily, it is practical to check what you already have and which could be used again this year. For example, if you are missing some utensils, we invite you to choose those made of bamboo instead of plastic. As much as possible, we avoid single-use items such as paper tablecloths, plastic or cardboard plates and glasses, etc. A little extra effort, but it makes a big difference. 💚
Moreover, new this year: our Holiday collection contains runners and napkins made with rescued fabrics. Discover them here!
Buy second-hand or durable decorations
We don't know about you, but when we make discoveries, it gives us immense satisfaction of mission accomplished. To find unique Christmas decorations and vintage, we suggest you search Facebook Marketplace or in thrift stores and donation centers like Renaissance (a real gold mine)!
Speaking of decorations, we can't help but share this little wonder with you: the celebration ring from the atelier Bosc. Made of cherry wood and beeswax, it pays tribute to the seasons and various holidays with its interchangeable decorations. A real favorite!

Find some eco-friendly gifts And local
THE Christmas markets are the ideal places to find the gift perfect (local and/or eco-friendly) for everyone on your list. Also, we try to avoid overpackaging: if the item is already well packaged, it does not need another layer of paper, we agree on that.
Another inexpensive and always appreciated idea: gifts homemade. Not only do they have a little something special, they require little or no packaging and make perfect gifts hostess. For example, a simple Mason jar that contains the ingredients to concoct delicious brownies, no one would say no to that!
Here are some of our favorite Quebec companies:
- The Firecrackers (eco-friendly body products)
- BKIND (eco-friendly body products)
- The Unscented Company (body and household products)
- Atelier Bosc (decorative objects made from natural materials)
- Lili Good (children's clothing made from recycled fabrics)
- Bego (pineapple and grape leather shoes)
- Sequential (men's swimsuits made from fabric made from recycled bottles)
- Strom Nordic Spa (treatments and spa in a beautiful and natural space)
Prioritize reusable gift wrap
Did you know that every year, Canadians throw away more than 540,000 tonnes of waste coming from the gift wrapping? An astronomical amount!
This is why we suggest that you favor eco-friendly gift wrapping And reusable, like ours made from 100% revalued fabric. 🎁♻️ By keeping the packaging from year to year, they not only allow you to do your part for the environment, but also to save money in the long term. Let's tell each other, buy some paper, of the sacs and choux almost every year, it can be expensive!
During the celebrations
Do activities that do not harmenvironment
What could be better than simple, inexpensive activities which, what's more, have no harmful effect onenvironment? Here are a few ideas: go skating, slide, walk in your neighborhood, go hiking in the mountains, in short, for our part, we like to take advantage of the holiday season to go play outside! ❄️
Make an exchange of gifts I had some, I don't want any more!
To change exchanges of gifts traditional, we offer you this original, economical and very simple concept: I had some, I don't want any more! All you have to do is take any object that belongs to you that you no longer want, but that could be useful or please another person around you. We like the idea of giving a second life to objects that we no longer want instead of getting rid of them for good.
After the celebrations
Once the holidays are over, don't forget to put all the waste which can be recycled in the recycling bin. Those that cannot be recycled, such as Styrofoam, can be transported to an ecocenter instead of being thrown in the trash. Same thing for the Christmas tree: if you have a natural tree, remember to put it on the side of the road on the day of collection by the city. Otherwise, you can take it to the ecocenter (because forgetting happens)!
"We really invite you to check out the app from Recyc-Québec called Ça va où?. For us, it's our bible of sorting, it is part of our daily life!"
Finally, for items or decorations that you no longer want, consider putting them up for sale on platforms such as Marketplace or others.
In short, we hope that these few ideas inspire you to spend a little more Christmas eco-responsible This year. Have a very happy holiday season! 🎄
